John Nash (1752-1835)

    John Nash was the English architect. He was a pupil of Sir Robert Taylor . Since the year 1784 John Nash has worked in Wales for orders and by the year of 1787 ha managed to return to London. John was nicely accepted in society and won the favour of the prince - regent (George IV).
    Building and houses, built by John Nash are spread all over England and present the huge variety of styles: Classicism, NeoGothic, Tudors' style. For a certain period John Nash worked with the famous landscape architect and together they created some well-known constructions.
    His capacities were greatest in town planning, and he is chiefly known for his boldly planned development of the Marylebone region of London.
    On the request of the prince John Nash worked up one of the most audacious conceptions in the history of London. His scheme, as put into execution in 1818, comprehended Regent St., with its Quadrant, and Regent's Park, with its terraces and surrounding streets of formally designed town houses. Nash also designed the Haymarket Theatre and remodeled Buckingham Palace. A new road was constructed and the architect started projecting each block of buildings as one architectural ensemble. The Marble Arch in front of the entry to the Hyde Park was constructed also according to the project of John Nash.
    After the death of the King, John Nash lost his position and went to live in his own house outside of London.
